Give to Gain - IWD 2026

Every year, International Women’s Day invites us to pause and reflect on the progress made toward gender equality and the work that still lies ahead. This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” reminds us that meaningful change does not happen by accident. It requires intentional action, investment, and commitment from all of us.

When we give our attention, our resources, our advocacy - we create the conditions for women and girls to gain safety, opportunity, and freedom.

This truth is especially clear in the fight against human trafficking.

Human trafficking is one of the most severe forms of gender-based violence. The majority of those exploited in the sex trade are women and girls. Trafficking thrives in silence, inequality, and the normalization of exploitation.

But it weakens when communities choose to act.

When we invest in prevention, we help young people recognize grooming and manipulation before exploitation begins. When we invest in survivor supports such as safe spaces, counselling, peer support, and pathways to rebuild lives, we help restore dignity, autonomy, and hope. When we invest in survivor leadership, we ensure that the voices of those with lived experience help shape the solutions.

Giving in these ways creates powerful gains: safer communities, stronger support systems, and a future where fewer women and girls are exploited.

International Women’s Day is not only a moment to celebrate women’s achievements. It is also a call to recognize where inequity and violence still exist and to commit to changing that reality.

This International Women’s Day, we invite you to stand with survivors and be part of the movement to end human trafficking. When we invest in women’s safety and dignity, we create a future where every voice can be heard.
