This training is for Ontario organizations that currently offer, or are considering introducing, peer support as part of their services. This half-day workshop is designed for organizations that support people who are at risk of human trafficking, are currently being trafficked, or have experienced trafficking.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the foundations of Ethical Peer Support™, including the value of lived and living expertise, core ethical principles, role scope, boundaries and organizational responsibility.

2. Assess their organization’s readiness to implement peer support, including leadership commitment, organizational culture, supervision, workforce supports, compensation, policies, documentation, role clarity and referral and escalation pathways.

3. Identify common risks in peer support implementation, including role ambiguity and drift, pressure to cross boundaries, unsafe expectations around disclosure, inadequate supervision, emotional overextension, tokenism and inequitable workforce practices.

4. Apply an ethical decision-making process to boundary challenges, disclosure, crisis situations, role strain and other complex situations that may arise in peer support practice.

5. Distinguish between the responsibilities of individual peer workers and those of the organization and recognize when challenges require systems-level rather than individual responses.

6. Develop practical strategies to strengthen organizational infrastructure so that peer workers are appropriately supported, protected and positioned to contribute their expertise.

7. Create an actionable implementation plan by identifying organizational strengths, gaps and priority risks and establishing concrete actions and leadership commitments for the next 30, 60 and 90 days.
